Lamlash Bay Hotel contacted us in search for a company who could take there website development forward. They had many problems with previous developers and this left them with a limited budget. After winning the contract we initially carried out the design work which was received very well by Liz and Ian. Latest Email and Phone Scam

I don’t know how long this scam has been around, it’s the first time i have received the scam or heard of it so i wanted to pass the information on.

This morning i received an email which looked like a normal email enquiry, however for some reason i thought to myself this looks suspicious at the same time because the message read “I’ve tried calling but no answer” and i thought to myself, I’m always by my phone and I’ve not missed any calls recently. So off to google i went and found the number being used in these email scams are actually not that bad unless being used by a scammer and to every day people would look like a mobile number.

My research pulled up lots of results and the average charge is 20p-50p per minute on these numbers and even though ofcom and other telecom authorities have been notified i was unable to find any news relating to the problem being dealt with.

The scam is very simply but believable. The scammer uses an 070 number which is a “follow me” number. Nothing illegal here “follow me” numbers are used by many people legitimately so that if there away from there desk or not home it automatically forwards the caller to there mobile.

You can probably already guess that the scammers have it forward to a premium rate number and you are non the wiser. The other thing they do is target businesses, for example if your a florist the email might read, “I’m interested in some flowers for my wife, please call me” or if your an IT company it might read “My PC has died please can you call me” they play the part of an actual customer by targeting specific businesses with what appears to be real enquiries.

So keep alert 070 numbers are bad news
